Peoria Arizona Real Estate
Money magazine ranked Peoria, Arizona among its "100 Best Places to Live," in 2008.
Formerly an agricultural town, Peoria, Arizona has evolved into one of the fastest growing suburban Phoenix communities. Arizona's ninth largest city, with an estimated population of 150,000 in 2008, Peoria features some of Metro Phoenix' best and most popular outdoor attractions, including Lake Pleasant.
Peoria was settled in the 1880s by families from Peoria, Illinois. The town began to change in the 1960s with the opening of nearby Sun City, the retirement community. The 1980s and 1990s brought explosive growth to the area, with population increasing 300 percent.
Today, Peoria is located 13 miles from Phoenix with easy freeway access from your Peoria home to the rest of the Valley and other state attractions. The spring home to the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres, the City hosts athletic and special events year-round. Downtown Peoria comes alive each year with "Pioneer Days" and "Fall Fest," and other activities include auto shows, parades, and a variety of live entertainment. Nearby Glendale is the home of the Phoenix Coyotes of the NHL, and beginning in 2006, the NFL's Arizona Cardinals. The city has a community college, is nearby to Arizona State University's West Campus, as well as 243 acres of public parks, three golf courses and a variety of other athletic amenities. Peoria, Arizona real estate represents one of the hottest areas for appreciation in town
